There are many types of birth control, from taking a pill to having implants put in to having surgery which is a permanent birth control. In this article we are going to take a look at several different birth control options.
One method is called Essure; it is an alternative to having a tubal ligation performed which is surgery. Essure are micro-inserts that are implanted into the fallopian tubes, it can be done at your doctor’s or clinic and only takes about ten minutes, and you will be back on your feet the next day. Using Essure cant prevent pregnancy by 99.8%. That is a good percentage.
Tubal Implants is an alternative to having a tubal ligation performed which is permanent birth control
These implants take about thirty minutes from start to finish and are done as an outpatient surgery, small metal springs are inserted into opening of tubes, it will take three months for the skin to close around the springs and form a barrier which then blocks any eggs from getting through to the womb.
Then there is Tubal Ligation which is permanent birth control, this is the option to use if you know you do not want children or if you already have children and do not want anymore. With this procedure your tubes are tied, there are different forms of having a tubal done, some procedures involve cutting the tubes while others involve burning the tubes. You can have a tubal reversed but that procedure is very expensive, if you opt to have the tubal ligation procedure done; it will take you six weeks to heal completely. Or one of the new permanent birth control methods might be a better choice for you, either the Essure or Tubal implant; you will be back on your feet the next day.
And of course there is the birth control pill, there are two types one taken the morning before sex and the one you take for three weeks, there are many different kinds of pills to take, the pill can be effective in preventing pregnancy as long as it is taken as directed.
Other forms of birth control are Depo Provera and Progestin Implants. Depo Provera is an injection and only lasts for three months before another injection is needed. Progestin is an implant put under the skin, usually in your arm and it can last for three years, but remember these semi-permanent and permanent birth controls will not protect you against STD’s.
There are some methods known as Barrier methods which include the diaphragm, cervical cap, sponges and condoms which are actually the best because they also will prevent STD’s or sexually transmitted disease. There is also the patch which you place on your upper body, bottom, arm, you wear it for three weeks out of the month, do not wear while on your period.
Then there is the IUD, which can last up to ten years, but there are side effects, check with your doctor before deciding which method is best for you.
Another permanent birth control has to do with the man, a vasectomy, is when a males testicles are cut during a surgical procedure, this is the best and most effective way of preventing pregnancy. Many men wait until they are in their forties to have this procedure done.
There is only one way to prevent pregnancy 100% and that is not to have sex at all, there are couples out there who swear by this way. Before you decide on a permanent birth control method, look at all the other options for birth control and decide which is best for you.
